Crafting Attention in Immersive and Interactive Practices

This creation is part of the ongoing project “Positioning Audience in Cinematic Virtual Reality”, supported by Scientific and Technological Research Council Turkey. The engages with attentional corporeal resonance between spectators visual experiences participatory immersive practices. In continuing first phase project, we are designing producing a VR that will then enable us to conduct audience research focus on attention practices viewers second phase. Hence, as critical research-creation it has two complementary symmetrical foci employ both theory practice, intertwined one another. tandem making an interactive photorealistic (cinematic) film where spectator crafts very narrative unfolding voluntary involuntary participation given scene, also developing conceptual framework how technologies conditioned freedom spectator. As interdisciplinary brings together researchers from studies, new media studies psychology develop holistic understanding moving image technologies. making, instead using game-based interactivity enabled controllers, uses gaze detection techniques economy active defining element unfolding. Combining bottom-up top-down procedures allows craft circular experience aims problematize historical producer optical certain ecology including proto-cinematic devices post-cinematic constellation comprising video games, Reality etc. Therefore aim rend sensible autonomy viewer combining conventional academic artistic experimentation. undertaken aimed result multiple alternative designs, which form basis our presentation at IFM2023.
